The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) of India held a meeting with stakeholders including industry organizations and laboratories on September 7, 2022 to discuss the proposed list of telecommunications products for Phase V under MTCTE.
Main topics of discussion included:
- Proposed products for Phase V: Base Stations for Cellular Networks, 5G Core Products, Hypervisor and Converged Multi Service Application Access Equipment (C-MASAAE). The Essential Requirements (ER) of the products listed above are still under development.
- Considerations of introducing the SDoC Scheme under MTCTE to make the certification process faster and simpler. If this Scheme is introduced, the surveillance program will be significantly increased.
- Testing Labs. Industry members raised concerns about a lack of testing infrastructure and called for an increase in the number of test labs to support testing of proposed products. TEC responded that there will be sufficient Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) available. In cases where there are no CABs for parameters, TEC will provide a Provisional Certificate. ILAC Test Reports will only be temporarily accepted, as TEC envisions building sufficient testing infrastructure within the country. TEC will also be expediting the Test Lab Designation Process under the program to be completed within 2 weeks to improve testing lead-times for manufacturers.
- Implementation dates. Phase III and Phase IV will be implemented on July 1, 2023, and TEC requested to set a date for Phase V implementation.
