The European Commission has opened a public consultation on November 10, 2023, on the preliminary Opinion issued by the Scientific Committee on Health, Environmental and Emerging Risks (SCHEER) on the potential health effects of exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) – Update with regard to frequencies between 1Hz and 100 kHz. SCHEER found that there is no convincing evidence for casual relationship between self-reported symptoms and low frequency EMF exposure within limits indicated in Council Recommendation 1999/519/EC, and that the general European population’s exposure to low frequency EMF is below the exposure limits outlined in the Recommendation. More research is still needed on the interaction mechanism between human health and EMF exposure. The consultation may be accessed here and will be open for comments until January 2, 2024.
